ここでは東京書籍のニューホライズン中学3年生のunit3を解説していきます。今回からunitごとに解説を作るようにします。但し、大きく分けてsceneとread and thinkには分けて書いていきます。少し長くなりますが、どんどんあげていくつもりです。それではまずは単語から

次は本文を一気にやって行きます。
Many kinds of animals are in danger of extinction.
多くの種類の動物が絶滅の危機に瀕しています。
Today they are facing many challenges, such as climate change and human activities.
今日それらは気候変動や人間の活動のような多くの難問に直面しています。
It is difficult for endangered animals to survive in these conditions.
絶滅の危機に瀕している動物がこれらの条件の中で生き残るのは難しいです。
It is important for us to understand this.
私たちがこれを理解することは大切です。
Have you ever heard of the IUCN Red List?
あなたは今までにIUCNのレッドリストを聞いたことがありますか。
No, I’ve never heard of it. What is it?

The Red List gives us information about endangered animals, birds, plants, and so on.
レッドリストは私たちに絶滅の危機に瀕している動物、鳥、植物などについての情報を私たちに与えてくれます。
What animals are on the list?
リストにはどんな動物が載っていますか。
Pandas, cheetahs, and gorillas, for example.

Some animals and birds in Japan are also on it.

Let us give you one example from the Red List.
レッドリストから私たちがあなたに一つの例を与えましょう。
It is the crested ibis, or toki in Japanese.
それは日本語でトキです。
Up until the Meiji era, we could see many ibises around this country.
明治時代まで私たちはこの国中で多くのトキを見ることができました。
However, the population of ibises in Japan rapidly decreased.
しかし、日本でのトキの数は急速に減少しました。
People hunted them for their beautiful feathers, and development destroyed their environment.
人々はその美しい羽のためにトキを取りました。そして、開発が彼らの環境を破壊しました。
It was difficult for them to survive.
トキたちが生き残るのは難しかったです。
In 1981, five ibises were captured on Sado Island for breeding.
1981年委5羽のトキが飼育のために佐渡島で捕まえられました。
People tried to help them live safely, but they died one bｙ one.

The last one died in 2003.

There are many reasons, such as hunting, logging, and mining.

Surprisingly, our electronic devices are one of these reasons.

To make these devices, we need some special metals.

Some of these metals come from the gorillas’ habitat.
